Dear Representative

I am writing asking you to please show your support for H. Res. 638 asking United Nations to establish India as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

At present the Council lacks the voice of any developing world democracy and India is both the best and largest example of such entities. It is the world's largest democracy, a rapidly growing economic power and a major contributor to the peacekeeping operations. India has played a leading role in the deliberations and activities of the United Nations, including sending Indian troops for peacekeeping purposes all around the world. In recent years, we have seen endorsement from various groups, many world leaders and many US Congressmen.

India is an important ally of the United States and the world community. The relationship between America and India is based on the solid foundation of a shared commitment to democracy and U.S. and India are confronted by many of the same threats, particularly the forces of international terrorism. Thus, by promoting the candidacy of India, US stands to gain in the long run  by having a ally in UN Security Council.
